Naamly ("the app") is a naam jap counter for iPhone and Android, built by Rajesh Hadiya. Naamly is designed to be private by default: it has no servers, no analytics, and no accounts, and it never sends your practice data anywhere. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles and where it lives.
The short version
Everything you do in Naamly stays on your device. We cannot see your data — there is nothing to see on our side, because nothing is ever sent to us.
Data the app stores — on your device only
- Your mantras, chant counts, daily history, streaks, and achievements.
- Your settings: counter layout, mala style, palette, appearance mode, daily goal, and reminder time.
- Your profile name and optional profile photo. The photo is cropped and saved inside the app’s private storage on your device. It is never uploaded to any server of ours and never included in the data export.
All of this is stored locally in the app’s own storage, and the app never uploads it. Your phone’s own backup may keep a copy of all of this, including your profile photo. On iPhone, if you are signed in to iCloud, Naamly also saves a copy to your personal iCloud storage so your practice stays consistent across your devices. On Android, the system’s Auto Backup may copy the app’s storage to your personal Google account so it can be restored on a new phone. Apple or Google holds these copies under their own privacy policies — we have no access to them, and they never reach any server of ours. If backup is switched off, everything stays on the device.
Notifications
Daily reminders are local notifications, scheduled entirely on your device after you grant permission. On Android 13 and newer, the app asks for notification permission when you switch reminders on. No notification data is sent to any server.
Permissions on Android
On Android, Naamly asks only for permission to show notifications, for your daily reminder. It also uses two standard system permissions: one to bring your reminder back after the phone restarts, and one to vibrate. It does not ask for location, camera, contacts, microphone, or storage access.
Data export
You can export your data as a JSON file at any time from Settings. The export is generated on your device and shared through your phone’s share sheet — where it goes from there is entirely your choice. The export never includes your profile photo.
What the app does NOT do
- No analytics or tracking of any kind.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers.
- No third-party SDKs.
- No data collection, transmission, sale, or sharing — with anyone.
Apart from the backup described above, the only network request Naamly makes is the App Store or Google Play review prompt — the one that asks you to rate the app. It is shown by Apple or Google, not by us, and it carries none of your practice data.
Deleting your data
Because all data lives on your device, deleting the app removes it from the device. You can also erase everything while keeping the app: Settings → Reset all data wipes your mantras, counts, history, settings, and profile photo. Deleting the app alone does not remove copies held by Apple or Google. On iPhone, Reset all data also clears your iCloud copy; on Android, you can delete the backup in your Google backup settings. If you want to keep a copy of your data, export it first from Settings.
Children's privacy
Naamly collects no data from anyone — including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices ever change, this policy will be updated here and the "last updated" date revised before any change takes effect.
